Πολυγλωσσία και Γλωσσική Πολιτική

Καθηγήτρια Αγγλικής και Εφαρμοσμένης Γλωσσολογίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Cambridge και Fellow στο Κολλέγιο Fitzwilliam. Έχει υπηρετήσει ως καθηγήτρια στη Σχολή Ψυχολογίας και Κλινικών Γλωσσικών Επιστημών στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Reading και στο Α.Π.Θ. ως καθηγήτρια Ψυχογλωσσολογίας και Διευθύντρια του Εργαστηρίου Γλωσσικής Ανάπτυξης στο Τμήμα Αγγλικής Γλώσσας και Φιλολογίας. Είναι κάτοχος διδακτορικού διπλώματος από το UCL (1992). Επίσης, δίδαξε γλωσσολογία στο UCL, στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Newcastle-upon-Tyne, στο Cambridge (Ερευνητικό Κέντρο Αγγλικής και Εφαρμοσμένης Γλωσσολογίας). Έχει δημοσιεύσει τρεις μονογραφίες ((Blackwell, Garland and CUP) και άρθρα σε διεθνή περιοδικά, συλλογικούς τόμους και εγκυκλοπαίδιες. Η διδασκαλία και η έρευνά της αφορούν τους χώρους της ανάπτυξης/κατάκτησης πρώτης και δεύτερης γλώσσας, της πολυγλωσσίας, της γλωσσικής διαταραχής και της θεωρητικής σύνταξης. Μεγάλο μέρος του ερευνητικού της έργου έχει χρηματοδοτηθεί από ερευνητικά προγράμματα, από τα οποία το πιο πρόσφατο αφορά την πολυγλωσσία και τον πολυγραμματισμό και εστιάζει σε παιδιά από χαμηλά κοινωνικο-οικονομικά στρώματα στην Ινδία, τα οποία φοιτούν σε δημόσια σχολεία. Το πρόγραμμα εξετάζει τις γλωσσικές ικανότητες, τον γραμματισμό και αριθμητισμό καθώς και τις γνωστικές ικανότητες των μαθητών της πρωτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης και κατά πόσο αυτές οι ικανότητες επηρεάζονται από τις διαφορές ανάμεσα στο γλωσσικό μέσο διδασκαλίας, λ.χ. αν πρόκειται για σχολείο με την Αγγλική ως επίσημη γλώσσα, και τη μητρική γλώσσα του παιδιού (https://www.mam.mml.cam.ac.uk/). Είναι συνεπιμελήτρια του περιοδικού Glossa  και μέλος της ομάδας επιμελητών των περιοδικών Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, Second Language Research, Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism, Language Acquisition: A Journal of Developmental Linguistics, Journal of Applied Linguistics, Biolinguistics (e-journal), Journal of Greek Linguistics and of the Book Series “Language Acquisition and Language Disorders”.

Ianthi Maria Tsimpli. Chair of English and Applied Linguistics at the University of Cambridge, Professorial Fellow and Director of Studies in Linguistics at Fitzwilliam College. Before moving to Cambridge she held the positions of Professor of Multilingualism and Cognition at the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading and Professor of Psycholinguistics and Director of the Language Development Lab at the Dept. of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She received her PhD in Linguistics from University College London (1992). She taught Linguistics at University College London, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and University of Cambridge (Research Centre for English and Applied Linguistics). She has published three monographs (Blackwell, Garland and CUP) and several articles in international journals, edited volumes, handbooks and encyclopaedias. She teaches and researches in First and Second Language Acquisition, Bilingualism and Cognition, Psycholinguistics, Language Impairment and Theoretical Syntax. A large part of her research is externally funded through research projects. Her current research project funded by ESRC-DfID “Multilingualism and Multiliteracy: Raising learning outcomes in challenging contexts in primary schools across India” involves the collaboration of JNU, NIMHANS and EFL-U in India (https://www.mam.mml.cam.ac.uk/) and addresses the effects of multilingualism on school and cognitive skills in primary school children from disadvantaged backgrounds. She is Associate Editor of Glossa and member of the Editorial Board of the journals Bilingualism: Language and Cognition, Second Language Research, Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism, Language Acquisition: A Journal of Developmental Linguistics, Journal of Applied Linguistics, Biolinguistics (e-journal), Journal of Greek Linguistics and of the Book Series “Language Acquisition and Language Disorders”.
